All of my life I have heard and read of how the vast North American plains were covered by bison.

We’ve all heard the statement,  “.....as far as the eye can see."

Most images portray the mighty beasts on the run - charging or being pursued.

In reality, they would have been ambling along, kicking up dust, grazing as they go, just like a large herd of cattle.
